The 2026 Seattle Equitable Develop Initiative Launches RFP process seeking community-led organization to address displacement through land ownership and development.
Who owns land and leads development matters when it comes to long term stewardship of community assets, and EDI believes that the communities closest to the affordability and displacement crisis should be in the driver’s seat.
Has your organization been working with your community to prevent neighborhood wide displacement of community spaces and cultural assets? Has your community-serving organization been dreaming about or planning for a place to call home?
The Seattle Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) may be able to help.
Since 2016, EDI has funded community led development projects that address the root causes of displacement. Think affordable childcare, health services delivered with dignity and cultural relevance, affirming and accessible gathering spaces, career training and workforce development, urban farms, and land reclamation and rematriation led by the communities most impacted by displacement.
We want to work with you!
To determine eligibility and application pathways, please complete the 2026 Seattle EDI Eligibility Screening.

Past Project Impacts Food Justice
When the Rainier Beach Action Coalition was organizing residents around the neighborhood plan update, leaders identified the need for a Community Food Hub to address the intersecting challenges of disproportionate unemployment rate for young people in the neighborhood paired with poor access to affordable, high quality, culturally relevant food. Working diligently over the past ten years, the organization refined their proposal, searched for properties that could support the vision, raised funds, acquired and renovated an underutilized property adjacent to the Rainier Beach Light Rail station to house the Food Innovation Center.
