Upcoming EDI Report to City Council

The Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) is at the heart of our commitment to support communities most affected by displacement pressures. Through the EDI grant program, we empower local organizations to acquire sites and develop major capital projects, while also providing the necessary support for organizations that are new to this process. Whether it’s helping a project get off the ground or funding the final push toward completion, the EDI program is making a real difference in our neighborhoods.

On May 30, 2024, the Seattle City Council requested a comprehensive status update on the EDI grant program and the projects funded through it. This report, due by September 24, 2024, will help the Council better understand the current state of EDI projects, recognize what’s working, and identify improvements.

What will be in the upcoming report?

The report will include several key components:

  • Project Updates: We will provide a status update on each project funded by the EDI program, detailing where each project stands and what is next on the horizon.
  • Program Evaluation: The report will highlight the results of ongoing evaluations, showcasing the program’s effectiveness, and identifying areas for potential improvement.
  • Future Funding Needs: We will outline any potential future funding requests within the existing portfolio of EDI projects to help shape future funding strategies.
  • Identifying Successes and Obstacles: We will also take a look at the successes and challenges grantees face to learn about what is working and help reduce obstacles.

Why This Matters

This report is more than just a check-in; it is an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the EDI program and its grantees. It is a chance to share the stories of how these projects are positively impacting communities across Seattle. By documenting what is working well and where there are challenges, we can continue to refine and improve the EDI program, making it an even stronger tool for equitable development.

Moreover, the insights gained from this report will help shape the future of the EDI program. We will be able to identify gaps in funding, streamline processes, and ensure that resources are allocated in the most effective way possible. It is all part of our ongoing commitment to building a more equitable Seattle.

Looking Ahead

As we gather information from our grantees and prepare this report, we are optimistic about what lies ahead. We are working closely with our partners to ensure that this report not only meets the City Council’s requirements but also serves as a valuable tool for the community.

Thank you to all our EDI grantees for your incredible work and dedication. Your projects are making a lasting difference, and we are proud to support you every step of the way. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build a brighter, more equitable future together!
